MASSENA — The Massena Arts and Theater Association is in line for additional funding as it
continues its efforts to bring the former Schine Theater in downtown Massena back to life.

The association will receive $5,000 to support the theater’s restoration, including marquee
restoration and façade stabilization.

The latest funding comes courtesy of the Air Products Greater Massena Community Fund, which is administered and managed through the Northern New York Community Foundation in Watertown.

Air Products announced four other recipients in the first round of funding, totaling $32,500.

They include $7,500 for the Holistic Life Foundation, to support the Massena Central School
District’s Mindful Moment Program. This program serves as a calming space for students to
promote mental health, emotional regulation, and resilience to practice emotional regulation and
reduce behavioral issues.

The Police Activities League of Massena is also receiving $7,500 to enhance the safety and security of their facility with the installation of security windows and a door opener that’s compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Also receiving funding is the Massena Salvation Army. They’ll receive $7,500 to complete the construction of a commercial-grade kitchen, which will allow them to provide three hot meals a week for St. Lawrence County residents facing food insecurity.

Rounding out the first group of funding is $5,000 to Massena Hospital to support the renovation of the emergency department. That includes upgrading the behavioral health room, refreshing staff areas with new furniture, refreshing patient exam treatment rooms, creating a private family consultation area, and improving security measures.

This year’s grants are supporting projects in the areas of education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and human services.

“We are proud to support organizations that are making a difference in the Greater Massena community,” Trip Oliver, Air Products’ director of government and community relations said. “Our goal in investing in these programs is to create a more vibrant and prosperous community for everyone.”
