US House of Representatives budget reconciliation bill’s devastating cuts to the federal clean energy tax credits pose a grave threat to New York’s economic vitality and the nation’s energy independence. These shortsighted cuts pose imminent risks to workers, families, and businesses across New York, while simultaneously undermining vital investment in American manufacturing and infrastructure.
Should the U.S. Congress enact this legislation as currently drafted, the repercussions would be immediate and severe.
As a public relations firm focused on supporting our clients in the build out of renewable energy infrastructure, Sustainable PR has an intimate understanding of the consequences this budget reconciliation will have on our state, our economy, our business owners, and our communities. We anticipate major layoffs not just in New York, but in communities across the country, impacting both blue and red districts. Americans will be deprived of access to low-cost clean electricity at a time when families and businesses are struggling with persistent inflation.
New York’s solar industry alone employs nearly 16,000 workers, and we are adding power to the grid to meet growing demand faster than any other energy sector.
Without urgent course correction, this proposal threatens to:
- Close or cancel 287 American factories for solar and storage.
- Eliminate 292,000 American jobs.
- Erase $220 billion in local investment.
- Remove 145 TWh of electricity generation by 2030.
Not only will this proposal undermine the clean energy sector and wipe out a thriving economic driver, but it will also discourage investment in America’s energy infrastructure at a time when our energy demand is skyrocketing due to technology advancements and the widespread adoption of AI, leaving our nation’s grid vulnerable.
