In the Adirondacks, we know the value of putting something away for later.
Farmers make hay while the sun shines because we know we’ll need it when the snow is waist-deep. We stack firewood so it can season before that first cold night.
We fill our fuel tanks, freezers, and barns because living here teaches you that having something available, and having something available when you need it, are two different things.
Our electric grid has the same problem, but traditionally, electricity has had to be generated at roughly the same time people want to use it.
And having electricity available “somewhere” in New York doesn’t necessarily mean the transmission system can move unlimited amounts of it to wherever the demand is highest.
